On exam day

What to expect on exam day

To help you feel prepared and organised, this guide explains the exam-day process, what to expect, and the rules you must follow. Reviewing it in advance will help you avoid delays or disruptions.

Exam day checklist

✔ Check your exam timetable
✔ Prepare your RCL student ID or another photographic government issued ID
✔ Prepare your stationary (and calculators if applicable)
✔ Plan your travel to leave in good time
✔ Leave any valuable items at home

What to expect on the day

Check your room allocation at reception.

Invigilators will check your ID and any permitted notes, and you’ll be asked to sign the attendance list.

All personal belongings must be placed in the designated storage area, and all electronic devices (phones, smartwatches, tablets) must be switched off and stored in your bag or handed to invigilators.

Remove coats and jackets before sitting down.

Only bring your ID, water, stationery, and (if permitted) your notes and calculator to your desk. Sit in your seat and complete the front of your answer booklet and at the top of each sheet.

Invigilators will read an announcement containing essential information. Listen carefully.

You are under exam conditions from the moment the invigilator reads the announcement. No talking or disturbing others is allowed. If you need help or wish to use the bathroom, raise your hand and wait for an invigilator. Only one student may leave to use the bathroom at a time.

Remain seated until all materials have been collected and you are told you may leave. Exam questions and other exam materials must not be copied, removed, or taken out of the exam room, including unused answer sheets or scrap paper.

If you need to leave early, you may only do so after:

  • the first hour (UGM), or
  • the first 30 minutes (SMU)

You must remain in your seat for the last 10 minutes.

Exam conduct

Exams are formal assessments, and you must follow all instructions from staff. Misconduct – including disruptive behaviour or verbal abuse – will not be tolerated and may result in removal from the exam.
