Resources for students with disabilities
Explore the tools, technology, and spaces designed to help you study confidently and independently.
Whether you use assistive software, need accessible study spaces, or want to connect with other students, there are a range of resources available to support you throughout your time at Regent College London (RCL).
The Wellbeing and Disability Support team can help you identify the right tools, set them up, and show you how to make the most of them.
Assistive technology can make studying more accessible and productive, especially if you have a disability, learning difference, or health condition.
We can recommend and help you install software that suits your needs.
Commonly used tools include:
- Screen readers: Convert on-screen text to speech (for example: NVDA, JAWS, VoiceOver)
- Text-to-speech tools: Read documents aloud and highlight text (for example: ClaroRead, Read&Write)
- Speech recognition: Dictate essays and notes using your voice (for example: Dragon NaturallySpeaking, Microsoft Dictate)
- Mind-mapping software: Plan essays, projects, and revision notes (for example: MindView, AYOA, MindMeister)
- Note-taking apps: Record lectures or create accessible digital notes (for example: OneNote, Notability, Genio)
- Built-in accessibility features available on Windows, macOS, and mobile devices.
If you receive support through the Disabled Students’ Allowance (DSA), your needs assessment report will outline the recommended tools for your studies.
Students can also book a one-to-one session with the Wellbeing and Disability Support team to explore which software, apps, or device settings could make studying easier.
All Regent College London campuses aim to be accessible, with spaces and services designed to support student comfort and independence.
The team can help you access:
- Step-free routes to classrooms, lecture halls, and study areas
- Accessible study spaces in libraries and quiet zones
- Ergonomic equipment, including chairs, back rests, and foot rests
- Hearing loops and visual fire alarms, where available
- Support for mobility or access needs, including Personal Emergency Evacuation Plans (PEEPs)
If you have specific access requirements, students are encouraged to contact the Wellbeing and Disability Support team before the course starts or as soon as needs change, so arrangements can be put in place promptly.
Disabled and neurodivergent students are part of a wider, supportive community at RCL, with opportunities to connect, build skills, and develop confidence.
Through the Student Support team and wider Student Experience initiatives, students can access practical support and peer connection throughout their studies.
Students can:
- Join student networks or peer groups for disabled and neurodivergent students
- Attend study skills workshops focused on organisation, memory, and assistive technology
- Access mentoring support for managing study routines and wellbeing
- Take part in inclusive events that support connection and belonging
- Receive one-to-one training on software provided through DSA or recommended by the College
- Learn about inclusive learning practices and share experiences with others
Students can ask the Wellbeing and Disability Support team which workshops, training sessions, or networks are available each term, and the team will help identify what best fits individual needs.
