Safeguarding

Keeping our community safe

Safeguarding is about protecting students from harm and making sure everyone at Regent College London (RCL) feels safe, supported, and able to learn. If you are worried about your own safety or the safety of another student, help is available.

What safeguarding means

Safeguarding refers to the measures taken to protect individuals who may be vulnerable or at risk of harm. Students may need safeguarding support if they have experienced, or are at risk of experiencing, harmful behaviours.

These can include:

  • Sexual misconduct, harassment, or abuse
  • Bullying, discrimination, or hate incidents
  • Violence or concerns about personal safety
  • Mental health crisis, including self-harm or thoughts of suicide
  • Exploitation, neglect, or coercion
  • Radicalisation or extremism
  • Modern-day slavery
  • Homelessness

You do not need to be certain that harm has occurred to raise a concern. If something does not feel right, it is okay to seek advice or support.

How to report a safeguarding concern

The Safeguarding Team is made up of trained staff who are responsible for responding to safeguarding concerns and ensuring appropriate support is in place.

If you are concerned about your own safety or the safety of another student, you can raise a safeguarding concern yourself.

Raise a concern by:

Concerns can be raised by students, staff, or on behalf of someone else.

If you or someone else is in immediate danger, you must call 999 for emergency support.

What happens after you raise a concern

The Safeguarding team will:

  1. Listen carefully and ensure you feel respected and heard
  2. Handle information sensitively and as confidentially as possible
  3. Offer guidance on next steps and the support available to you

Any action taken will be focused on your safety, wellbeing, and choices. Support will always aim to be proportionate and appropriate to the situation.

Confidentiality and information sharing

RCL is committed to protecting your confidentiality in line with data protection guidelines. However, if there is a serious risk to your safety or the safety of others, we may be legally required to share information.

In these situations, information is shared only on a need-to-know basis and solely to ensure timely support and reduce the risk of harm.

Policies and further information

You can find more details about how safeguarding concerns are managed in the Student Safeguarding, Prevent and Harassment Policy. This policy explains your rights, the support available, and the processes RCL follows.
