Your student details

Updating your student record

Keeping your personal and contact information up to date helps us stay in touch and ensures your student record, visa status, and official documents are correct. Use this page to find out how to update your details, when you must notify us of changes, and what evidence you may need to provide.

Update your details

If any of your personal details change, you must let us know as soon as possible. Accurate records ensure your student status stays correct and that you receive important communications without delay.

When completing the Change of Details form, you may be asked to upload supporting evidence (for example, a legal name-change document or proof of a new address).

Evidence to update your details

To make official updates (e.g. legal name, visa, nationality), please provide the appropriate document(s) when you submit a change request form.

To change the following details, you may need to provide the following forms of acceptable evidence:

  • Name or title: Passport, marriage certificate, deed poll
  • Address: Utility bill, tenancy agreement, bank statement (issued within the last 3 months)
  • Contact details: Confirmation via the Change of Personal Details form
  • Immigration or visa: New visa or BRP card
  • Nationality: Updated passport or citizenship certificate

Processing your request may take up to 5 working days. You’ll receive confirmation once your record is updated on our system and, where applicable, on your awarding university partner’s system.

When you must tell us about changes

Certain changes must be reported within 5 working days to comply with college, finance, and visa regulations.

Contact Student Services if you:

  • Change your home or term-time address
  • Update your phone number or email address
  • Receive a new passport, visa, or BRP card
  • Legally change your name or gender
  • Experience changes to your immigration or sponsorship status

If you receive Student Finance

Changes to your name or bank details must be updated with both RCL and Student Finance England.

If you hold a student visa

RCL is required to keep your details accurate under UKVI rules. Not updating your address, contact details, or visa information may affect your immigration status.

Partner-specific information

Your details are stored in both RCL and your awarding university partner’s system. After updating your details with RCL, check or update your partner university profile if applicable:
